Building Traffic to Your Blog

traffic-light-all If you are a blogger and you want to build traffic to your blog there are many ways to help you on your way. I have made a list of the top five ways that I feel are the most affective to drive traffic to your blog and keep readers coming back.

1. Get Involved
Get involved with your online community. This can take many forms as you all know. The most important thing to keep in mind is to be an active member online. This means joining and contributing to forums, blogs, social networks, and other online communities that are directly related to your specific subject or focus.

2. Be Natural
My favorite part about blogging is imagining that I am having a live conversation with people. I like to think of my style as very natural and human. When you write always remember who your audience is and keep them in mind. Write about topics that relate to your readers and they will keep coming back to you for more information.

3. Have Quality Links
When you are a blogger you do not want to over link or under link. Instead you want to find the perfect balance. A good rule of thumb is only link to things that need to be linked to but make sure to have only quality links. If you are talking about a website that everyone online is aware of then there is no need to link to it, but if it is a new product or service no has had heard of insert a resourceful link.

4. Offer Unique Content
Make sure that when you are blogging that you blog about topics that people care about that is unique. If you offer the latest and greatest tips and trends there isĀ  a good chance that people will follow your blog.

5. Fix Zero Comments
There is something very unappealing to a blog with zero comments. If you are new to the blogging community and you have no comments on your blog, don’t feel bad. The best thing to do is remove the post a comment option. In doing this no one will know you only have 20 new visitors a day and you will not scare new traffic. Once you start participating (see step one) and gotten involved with community you will see an increase in traffic and soon enough you will have enough visitors to gain quality comments. Once you are at that level you will feel confident to add the comment option back.

I have a suggestion and a concern. I am having problems getting people to view my blog and make comments… the only post that I get comments on are the ones that are highly searched for weird stuff in Google.

for example - I have a post about an obscure old computer programming language called Ti BASIC - developed for the Texas Instrument home computer back in the 80’s. I get random people searching for that and commenting all the time. Pretty cool.

Maybe you could strive to find a small niche like this for search engine visibility - then those people might like your site articles and post more comments becasue they like what they saw.
